Diane Francis writes:
"More than seven years since Russian troops first shocked the world by seizing control of the Ukrainian peninsula, the ongoing occupation is no longer a key focus of global attention."
She adds:
"However, Kyiv hopes the Crimea Platform can serve to generate renewed interest in the issue and consolidate international efforts towards ending the occupation."
Ms. Francis addresses:
" Attendees of the inaugural event in the Ukrainian capital signed a declaration that explicitly rejects Russia’s occupation of Crimea and calls for a continuation of sanctions, while also highlighting the need for greater human rights protection for those living in occupied Crimea."
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba comments in an interview with the Atlantic Council following the summit. :
“We succeeded in bringing Crimea out of oblivion.”

Mr. Kuleba addresses:
" Crimea had been in danger of becoming a forgotten issue internationally and this played perfectly into Russia’s hands."
Mr. Kuleba continues:
"For the past seven years, Russia’s strategy has relied on the world forgetting about Crimea and accepting the new reality."
The Ukrainian FM notes:
"So the key accomplishment of the Crimea Platform summit was to bring the occupation of Crimea out of the shadows.”
Diane Francis writes:
"Kuleba is keen to highlight practical progress made at the inaugural Crimea Platform summit and points to what he terms as a “strong” Crimea Platform Declaration signed by all attendees."

Ms. Francis addresses:
"Russia responded angrily to the launch of the Crimea Platform initiative, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denouncing the August 23 summit as an “anti-Russian event.”
The writer explains:

"The credibility of these claims was boosted considerably when Germany, France, Spain and Italy announced a last-minute change of plan and declined to send their respective foreign ministers to Kyiv for the summit as anticipated, opting instead for less high-profile representation."
The writer explains:
"Kuleba’s diplomatically worded response to this apparent snub hints at Ukraine’s frustration."
Ms. Francis points out:
“Given the longstanding position of G7 countries on supporting Ukraine and not recognizing the illegal occupation of Crimea, it was worthwhile to participate in this moment of history and we regret they could not attend the summit."

Lena Surzhko Harned, as an expert in post-Soviet Ukraine at Penn State University explains:
"As part of Zelenskyy's international diplomatic push, last week he launched the Crimean Platform initiative."
The author notes
"A first meeting for the initiative on Aug. 23, 2021, attracted government representatives from 46 countries, including the U.S."
The writer continues
"The attending countries issued a joint resolution calling for the "return" of Crimea to Ukraine."
She explains
"This echoes the view of the Biden administration, which has in the past affirmed its commitment to Ukraine's territorial integrity by recognizing that "Crimea is Ukraine.""
This expert in post-Soviet Ukraine at Penn State University addresses:
"Meanwhile, evidence of a more assertive self-defense stance by Ukraine can be seen in the past week's celebration of Ukraine's 30th Independence Day, during which Zelenskyy's administration put on a full parade, including naval and air force displays, celebrating Ukrainian military achievement."

"Moreover, there are fears in the capital, Kyiv, that once Russia is no longer dependent on Ukraine for its transit infrastructure – which it needs to transport gas to the lucrative European Union market – Russia might be able to move more aggressively in full military action in Ukraine."
She adds:
"The buildup of Russian military around Ukrainian borders in April 2021 reminded Ukraine of Russia's threatening military presence."

Ms. Surzhko Harned writes:
"Germany has committed to guarantee that Ukraine will have some compensation for any losses related to the pipeline in the form of investments."
According to her:
"Outgoing leader Angela Merkel has said that Germany will use sanctions and other economic mechanisms available should Russia attempt to use gas as a weapon against Ukraine or Europe."

"This will include military assistance – $60 million of which was pledged by the U.S. to Ukraine ahead of the Sept. 1 meeting."
According to the author:
"Zelenskyy will also be looking for progress – and support – from the U.S. on the issue of Ukraine's ambitions to join NATO."

Turan News (TN) writes:
"The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry strongly condemns provocative statements of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan aimed at promoting separatism in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan."
TN addresses:
"It should be noted that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a "congratulatory message" on the occasion of the" independence day" of the separatist regime established on the territory of Azerbaijan."
TN explains:
"In his message, Pashinyan supports the resumption of the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group in the belief that "as a result of this process, the status of Artsakh should be finally resolved in line with the right of nations to self-determination.""
Turan News says:
"Note that the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called Pashinyan's position "the fruit of the sick imagination".
TN informs:
"At the same time, the Foreign Ministry stressed that Armenia with its groundless territorial claims to Azerbaijan goes on falsifying historical facts and grossly violating the principles of international law."

Turan News cites the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement:
"Armenian officials can falsify historical facts and law as much as they want, but this will not change the facts."
The Azerbaijani F.M addresses in a statement:
"Karabakh is a historical territory of Azerbaijan, an integral part of its internationally recognized territories."
Turan News quotes further explanation from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry as saying:
"Note that since the late 1980s, Armenia has openly laid claims to the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region of Azerbaijan and supported aggressive separatism."
The statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry adds.
"It is known that the annexation of Nagorno-Karabakh unilaterally without the permission of Azerbaijan was contrary to the Soviet legislation, and this was approved at the highest constitutional level even then."
The same statement (FM) explains
"The essential point to remember is that Armenian officials are silent about the fact that the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan had been under military occupation of the Armenian armed forces for nearly 30 years when the fundamental rights of one million Azerbaijanis were."
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry informs:
"As a result of the 44-day Patriotic War that came as a response to another military provocation by Armenia, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity."
The Azerbaijani FM addresses:
"From now on, any claims to the Azerbaijani territories and attempts to incite aggressive separatist tendencies in our territories will be resolutely suppressed to receive an adequate response."

Russia
Has

Nagorno
Karabakh
Forever
02 Sep 2021
To say: "The Russian peacekeepers are the peacekeepers in the Azerbaijani Karabakh is insulting to the intelligence of humans."
It is a big lie and it is a demagogie when the authorities in Azerbaijan try to put their heads in sand with regard to the occupation of 4000 sq km from the Azerbaijani territories in the upper Karabakh.
These official authorities in Azerbaijan (government and parliament) falsely want to spread this big lie that Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed in the occupied Karabakh!
Russian invaders never dederve to be called the "Russian peacekeepers".
These invaders cannot be the peacekeepers at all when other big powers do not have any oversight on their military activities and their aggressions in other countries in the name of pracekeeping missions.
Russian occupying troops have been deployed to the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan to occupy it.
Before the 10th Nov 2020 (3 hours after midnight) and also in the early morning on Nov 10, 2020, Russia had invaded the Upper Katabakh region of Azerbaijan.
Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and his 2 war makers cowboys Sergey Lavrov (real name is Sergey Kalantariyan or Kalantarov; with the Armenian background ) and Sergey Shoigu (Defense Minister) loudly say:" The mission has been accopmplished."
It means:
"Russia has occupied the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan since Nov 10,2020."
For Putin and his 2 cowboys (who are the appontees as ministers in the Russian government Sergey Lavrov and Sergey Shoigu and the Russian) and those Russian Chauvinists in the Russian parliament (Duma) the mission has been accomplished.
For the world community this occupation of the Azerbaijani territories in the Karabakh region is illegal and Putin and his criminal allies must be punished.
Putin and his 2 cowboys ignore the international laws in regard to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in the same way they ignore the territorual integrity in Ukraine, in Georgia and in Moldova."
Putin says:
"I occupy your territories, therefore, I am."

"However, a day earlier, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov ordered the army to "immediately respond to provocations in the territories of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed.""immediately.
Mr. Asadov explains:
"The order was issued on September 2, before the date of the so-called "Independence Day" by Armenian separatist terrorists."
The author addresses:
"This gives us reason to say that Azerbaijan really has the opportunity to know in advance what is happening in the territories controlled by Russian peacekeepers, as President Ilham Aliyev said, as well as to know in advance the processes in Armenia and respond adequately to it."
According to the autho:
"By the order of the Defense Minister, Azerbaijan sent a message to the other side:
"The territories where Khankendi and other Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed are Azerbaijani lands, and if anyone engages in provocations against us in our territory, our Army will respond."
"Both separatists and peacekeepers must know."
The author notes:

Ms. Surzhko Harned points out:

She explains:

The writer addresses:
"But Lavrov's response took another pretext from official Yerevan."
The author explains:
"As for the "no" answer from the Russian representative from Baku Igor Khovayev, it is likely that the Azerbaijani government did not agree to Moscow's proposal, both because most of the mine maps were fake and the peacekeeping contingent's support for the remnants of the separatist regime in Karabakh."
Mr. Asadov writes:
"I would like to draw your attention to another fact that confirms these words:
